Do You Know About - Qualifying Life Changes?
When you experience a qualifying life event (QLE), you have the opportunity to add or change coverage for yourself or additional family members. The following QLEs will allow you to add and/or drop you, your spouse, and/or child(ren) to coverage within the first 31 days of the event.
- Marriage
- Children (age of child)
- Employment changes
- Moving (out of service area)
- Medicare
- Medicaid, HIPP and Chip
- Significant change in costs of health or day care
- Divorce / Court orders for health coverage
- Death
Timing is everything
If changes are not made within 31 days of the event, you will need to wait until the
next enrollment period.
Note: Changes are effective the first of the month following your qualifying life event
date with the exception of the birth of a child, adopting a child and gaining a medical
support order (MSO) in which coverage takes effect as of the QLE date.
- Confirm that you have a qualifying life event (see above).
- Identify and use the correct reason for the change when making changes to your account.
- Complete a Dependent Child Certification Form if adding a dependent child.
- Note that changes are effective the first of the month following your qualifying life event date.

Educational Session: BCBS Journey to Wellness
Please join the Benefits Team and BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) on Wednesday, June 17, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am for an informational session on the wellness benefits other offerred through BCBS.

Important Information
Benefits Summer Open Enrollment
Benefits Summer Open Enrollment for Plan Year 2027 (September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027) is scheduled from July 6 through July 17, 2026 for all four UNT institutions.
Healthcare Insurance Rate Change
ERS is planning to increase healthcare insurance rates by 8% for coverage beginning September 1, 2026 with the first increase reflected in your October 1, 2026 paycheck. More information about the rate changes can be found here.
Dental Provider Change
ERS has chosen Humana Dental to replace Delta Dental effective September 1, 2026. Levels of coverage and service are expected to be the same and more information, to include rates, will be included as part of Benefits Summer Open Enrollment. You may continue to use Delta Dental through August 31, 2026. More information about the transition can be found here
Confirm Your Address is Correct in ERS
As we approach Benefits Summer Enrollment, please take a moment to log in to your ERS account and confirm that your address is up to date or call ERS at 1-877-277-4377. ERS will be mailing Benefits Statements in the coming weeks.
