Near or far, HealthSelect has your college-age dependent covered?

Whether they—or you—want to think about it just yet, it’s almost time for your college-age-dependent to start their fall semester.

As they prepare for the upcoming academic year, now is a great opportunity to make sure their HealthSelectSM medical plan is ready to support them, especially if they’ll be going to school outside of Texas.

A little planning now can give you the peace of mind that while your student is learning, growing and enjoying their college experience, they’re covered when the unexpected happens. More information about the services available for your dependent(s) can be found here.

Important Information

Remember to spend your TexFlex dollars by August 31.

Now is a good time to check your TexFlexSM flexible spending account (FSA) to see if you still have money left to spend. Remember, FSAs have use-it-or lose-it rules set by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We don’t want you to lose any funds at the end of the year! To check your balance, just log in to your account on the TexFlex website or in the PayFlex Mobile® app.

Keep in mind—if you have a Healthcare or Limited-purpose FSA, you can carry over up to $660 to Plan Year 2027 (PY27). There is a minimum carryover amount of $25, if you did not re-enroll in the new plan year 2027.

If you have a Dependent Care FSA, unused funds will not carry over.  Last date to submit claims for eligible expenses paid in PY2026 is Dec. 31, 2026.

How to use your funds

  • TexFlex debit card: If you are enrolled in the health care or limited-purpose FSA, you can use your TexFlex debit card to pay for eligible expenses.
  • Pay yourself back: You can pay for eligible expenses with cash, check or a personal credit card. Then, submit a claim to pay yourself back. You can do this on the TexFlex website or through the PayFlex Mobile app. You can also download the FSA claim form from the TexFlex website and fax or mail with your supporting documents.
  • Direct-pay your provider: You can use the TexFlex website to file a claim and pay your provider directly from your FSA.
