Spotlight: Lisa Hobson

Lisa Hobson is a longtime educator from a lineage of educators. She joined UNT Dallas in August 2019 as professor and interim dean of the School of Education. Her work strengthening K-12 and higher education partnerships led to her current role working under UNT Dallas President Bob Mong to further the university's unique mission through managing partnerships with municipal and community agencies, school districts and other colleges and universities. Outside the office, Dr. Hobson's interests include walking and jogging, traveling, visiting museums and parks, and attending cultural and community festivals. She loves taking in the Dallas Zoo and Dallas Arboretum. So, click the button bellow and get to know Dr. Hobson.

What is your favorite aspect about your job?
I love assessing and using data, research and information to support UNT Dallas and UNT System goals and programs.

In your new position, what goals do you hope to fulfill?
I hope to expand opportunities and resources for attainment of higher education credentials and degrees. Institutions of higher education have resources such as the faculty, databases, facilities and centers which support career preparation and attainment and economic and community development.

What employee benefit or activity would you like to see added to UNT System?
I’d love to see more community development, programs and support for populations who are not traditionally college-bound/engaged.

What is your proudest work moment?
It’s having our work recognized by external stakeholders interfacing with, supporting and/or governing our efforts.

What is your proudest non-work moment?
My proudest moments are always seeing my daughter succeed and excel in her studies and career field.

What is a fact about you that may surprise your colleagues?
As a child, I successfully overcame two health challenges.

John Wick – It has five aspects I really like: action, vintage American muscle cars, a strong plot and, of course, dogs and Keanu Reeves!
TV show?: Probably Yellowstone -- I like the natural scenery, action, farm animals, and unbridled persistence and determination of the main characters who preserve their family’s heritage, property and resources.
Song?: Amazing Grace -- The refrain of this song is so beautiful and true! I also love the historical origin of the song and how it came to be!
