Somewhere there's a tongue twister about Ashley Penny in the payroll office, but it's certainly easy to say that she keeps everyone's favorite department
running as smooth as a crisp new dollar bill. She joined UNT World a little more than
two years ago and oversees several teams, from Payroll Production to Payroll Tax to
State Reporting. She practically grew up on the beach and over the last decade her
husband's jobs have had them moving 11 times between the beautiful beach-boasting
states of California and Florida. We're betting beach vacations will now suffice to
keep her around our parts. Maybe the two kiddos that arrived during those moves will
be reason to plant roots and enjoy a North Texas lake or two.
Q&A
What is your favorite aspect about your job?
I love to do research and solve issues within the System. I also love help driving
change that will help support the end user and customer.
What employee benefit or activity would you like to see added to UNT World?
I would love to see more leadership training for growing employees.
What is your proudest work moment?
Leadership is a passion of mine and from that I love helping my employees develop
into their career goals. I had a wonderful leader right out of college that took me
under their wing and that began my love for paying it back to others. I have had many
employees grow within and outside of the organization, but there are two employees
that I am very proud of. With the professional development funds we were able to
offset some of the cost to finish their schooling. From there, I and other leaders
in our department were able to mentor them and help them move up in the organization.
What is your proudest non-work moment?
My family -- my husband Chris and kids, McKenzie, 8, and Payton, 7. They bring me
such joy and they make me a better person every day.
What is a fact about you that may surprise your work colleagues?
Since 2009, I have moved 11 times (between California, Florida and Texas). My husband
and I are pretty much professionals at moving. We have moved back and forth between
Florida and California for my husband's jobs and each time we moved we had a rental
while our house was being built.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE...
Book?: The Catcher in the Rye. I loved the book when I read it in high school. It helped steer me in what I wanted
to pursue in college and in my life.
Place to visit?: The beach. I lived at the beach all my life, so it reminds me of home. All of my summers
since I was a child have been at a beach or beach vacation.
Inspirational hero?: Princess Diana. I loved her grace and all of her humanitarian work.
