Kathryn Lytton is a member of HSC's academic communications team helping to promote the great work being done at the Fort Worth institution, especially the numerous efforts throughout the pandemic. She joined the team just over two years ago and as we start the new year she has big news on two fronts -- she recently transitioned to a new role directing communications for the School of Health Professions and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences; and she grew her family of three to four (see below)! As beautiful and miraculous as pregnancy is, it can certainly cause interesting cravings as her response to "favorite restaurant" suggests. One thing's for sure, the office is never dull or lacking laughs when Kathryn's around. Read on to find out why.
Q&A
What is your favorite aspect about your job?
I love being able to collaborate across campus and be part of many different teams.
I am a natural connector and enjoy being able to find ways for people or groups to
work together to solve a common goal.
What employee benefit or activity would you like to see added to UNT World?
I think UNT World has great benefits and I’d especially like to shout out the employee
tuition assistance benefit! With this, my husband was able to earn his Master of Education
degree in Educational Leadership and had a wonderful experience.
What is your proudest work moment?
Though it’s been an exceedingly challenging time, I’m very proud of the work HSC has
done throughout the pandemic to provide information from leading experts and support
our community with available resources. Being part of the team communicating these
efforts and connecting experts to outlets to share their knowledge has been extremely
rewarding.
What is your proudest non-work moment?
Being a mom! We have one almost 4-year-old daughter and I am due any day with our
second. There has been nothing more rewarding than watching her grow into her own
person. (Since her submission, Kathryn gave birth to daughter Marlowe Rosemary Lytton
on Dec. 16 -- see photo below).
What is a fact about you that may surprise your work colleagues?
I think my colleagues would be shocked to know that I had a short run as a standup
comedian during college!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE...
TV show?: The Great British Baking Show – even though I am actually pretty terrible at baking and cooking in general!
Restaurant?: This is probably (hopefully) exclusive to pregnancy, but lately I could eat a grilled
cheese with pickles and tomato soup from Central Market every day.
Hobby?: Traveling. My family and I are trying to make our way through all National Parks
and we were able to make it to four new parks this past year.
