Frequently Asked Questions

When I submit a report who receives it?
When a report is submitted, it is routed to the Equity & HR Manager and Title IX Coordinator for UNT System Administration. If an investigation is launched, the case will then be assigned to an Equal Opportunity Investigator.

How long will the investigation take?
Our goal is to have all investigation completed within 45 days from the date the complaint is received.

Can I remain anonymous throughout the process?
Yes. Reporters and survivors may request to remain anonymous.  UNT System will make a concerted effort to ensure that anonymous reporters will remain anonymous and that identifying information will be not provided to third parties during the investigation, unless such accommodation hinders the completion of the full investigation.

What options do I have if I do not want a formal investigation to take place?
The factors System Administration must consider when determining whether to investigate an alleged incident of sexual misconduct include, but are not limited to:

  • The seriousness of the alleged incident
  • Whether the System Administration has received other reports of alleged sexual misconduct by the alleged respondent
  • Whether the alleged incident poses a risk or harm to others
  • Any other factors the System Administration determines relevant

If the complainant requests the System Administration not to investigate, the Investigative Authority must inform the complainant of the decision whether or not to investigate.

Am I required to participate in the process after a report is made?
All employees are required to fully cooperate with those performing an investigation. Employees failing to cooperate with those performing an investigation may be subjected to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. (For the purposes of this requirement, employees who are complainants/victims of sexual misconduct covered by this policy are not required to participate in this investigation). Students, any individual conducting business for or on the behalf of System Administration, visitors and participants at any location, program or other activity associated with the System Administration should cooperate with those performing an investigation.
